Gears for Agricultural Machinery

Heavy-duty gears for tractors, harvesters and irrigation systems, with materials and heat treatment configured for dusty, heavy-load field conditions.

Gears for Agricultural Machinery

Materials and Heat Treatment

For heavy-duty service, two material routes are common. One is 20CrMnTi, carburized and hardened, giving a tooth surface of 58~62 HRC with a case depth of 0.5~3.0mm. The other is 42CrMo, quenched and tempered, at 269~321 HB. Worm wheels are typically made from tin bronze ZCuSn10P1, paired with worms in 40Cr or in carburized and hardened 20CrMnTi.

Operating Conditions Typically Encountered

Agricultural machinery gears work under high torque and low speed, which places high root bending stress on the teeth. Field dust is heavy, oil return and lubrication are often poor, and tooth surfaces wear quickly as a result. Loads fluctuate widely, with occasional impact.

In such dusty and muddy conditions, sealing and wear resistance matter more than precision. Load capacity, however, still comes down to material and heat treatment.
